Austrian Gas Grid Management AG, as market and distribution area manager responsible for managing the supra-regional gas flows in the Austrian gas grids responsible for managing supra-regional gas flows in the Austrian gas grids, commissioned Fichtner IT Consulting GmbH to create a digital map application for the publication of potential entry points and suitability suitability zones for renewable gases. The aim of the project was to provide planners and producers of renewable gases a well-founded basis and at the same time a publicly accessible orientation aid for plant planning.

For the realization of the map application, the first step was for the AGGM to describe in a concept use cases how the application inGRID can be understood and used by the users. The focus here was on the usability of the application, with the requirement to effectively and efficiently obtain information on potential feed-in points or suitability zones. Together with FIT, the concept was further developed and possible technological approaches were discussed, taking into account AGGM's existing IT infrastructure. The resulting map application "inGRID" is based on a digital twin of the Austrian gas grid and is divided into efficiency classes for the feed-in of renewable gases. In order to identify suitable plant locations for biomethane, both the both the availability of resources and the capacity of the gas grid.
